I grew up in the western burbs of chicago and finally escaped after learning to windsurf and moved to Rio Vista California. Always hating cold water weather even California got cold to me in the winter. So with the rest of the pack, mexico is where we hang in the winter. I was fortunate and bought beachfront 12 years ago before prices got real out of hand. while my kiting and windsurfing friends from out west come down and visit me a lot, only one of my windsurfing friends from Evanston, IL have made the venture.
Anyway a friend of mine who is Mexican has asked me to tell people about his resort that is about 5 properties from mine. We are in the prime kiting and nice area(golden mile) of LaVentana. So if you are looking for a good place to kite this winter give him a shot. If you are on a real tight budget, well bring a tent and pitch it on my property. I have many bathrooms with hot showers and two outdoor kitchens so I have the space. The wind season is october 15 sometimes earlier to May. If you plan properly and say aim for thanksgiving if you fly a few days before and leave a few days after the weekend flights are reasonable to Cabo. you take a bus from there and get picked up in a nearby town. I think my father was getting very good deals with america west routed through Phoenix.
here is my place http://www.la-ventana.com
not bad for a chi town escapee. I also put a bunch of information on this area on a blog site http://www.la-ventana.info
My Mexican friend website is http://www.kiteparadise.biz
